Teens and Porn

As a mother of two teens, I was appalled when reading this headline in the Daily Mail :

Mother of four-year-old girl raped by boy, 14, blasts judge who freed him because he had been corrupted by internet porn for ‘cheap sentence’

This is scary! Not only can porn be viewed on the computer, but it can be viewed on almost anything linked to the web. Cellphones, PSP’s, tablets…

Even when you are not looking for porn or nudity, it sometimes finds its way into your daily browsing. I have seen obscene pictures on blogs and have seen quite a few on Instagram too. Luckily you can report it, like on Facebook and such, but it was too late for my poor little eyes. Yuck!

So even if we come across it, unwillingly, that’s how easy it will be when our kids start looking for it, willingly. Tongue twister, sorry.

So my question to you is, what are YOU going to do to keep your kids and yourself safe from porn. Or do you think that it is harmless? Are the one who says, “ah, if they will want to see it, they will find it?” True, but it is your responsibility to talk to your kids and to make them aware of the dangers that it brings.

Am I over reacting you think? I’m sorry, but porn IS dangerous!

  • It’s as addictive as crack
  • It gives one the a false illusion of how sex should be.
  • It destructs intimacy in a relationship.
  • Porn is degrading to the women (and to men) , many of whom are forced into making pornography.
  • In most of the movies, pictures there is no condom in sight. So, no safe sex and that can result in STD’s and AIDS.
  • Warped Thinking and Desensitization

And I could go on.

Still not convinced? Then maybe you should watch this following clip. It’s one of Mark Driscoll‘s sermons on pornography :

So again, what will you do to make your kids aware of the dangers of pornography? I hope you’ll do something, because even if you think that your child doesn’t look for it…you could be left very surprised.

Naked babies wielding weapons?

Valentine’s Day

Saint Valentine’s Day, often simply Valentine’s Day, is a holiday observed on February 14 honoring one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentinus. It was first established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD, and was later deleted from the General Roman Calendar of saints in 1969 by Pope Paul VI. It is celebrated in hundreds of countries around the world, mostly in the West, although it remains a working day in all of them.

Can anybody now tell where all the hearts, doves, chocolates and naked babies yielding weapons are coming from? I did a quick Google search  (it’s my best friend) and I came across many weird facts on the topic Valentines day.

Whatever it stands for, I will always link Valentine’s day to a day full of chocolate and making that extra special effort of  letting your loved ones know how much you care.

Now I know many of you are thinking sarcastic thoughts or saying “Valentine’s day is a Hallmark holiday” but common old grumpies.

You don’t have to spend much money or even buy a card. I fabricated mine with Photoshop Elements and bought two mugs in a shop and filled them myself with heart chocolates from the bakery across the street. I did this not only for my husband but for our teens as well and I must say, my daughter was so delighted that she kept on texting me thank you on her way to school. I also got the teens some great bath bombs from the Lush shop, so when my husband and I are having Sushi this evening, the kids can each have a nice relaxing bath time. Believe me, they love this kind of stuff, pampering.

Now, that’s what’s Valentine’s all about for me.

For the son…because he needs to know.

How to make your kid “unfriend” you on Facebook.

I came by this motivational whilst “Stubbling” and felt immediately connected to this mother.  When I sometimes see my son’s status it surprises me. He never talks or acts like that at home. Teens, weird.

So I was telling my son about this funny pic on top and he looked at me with dread in his eyes. “That’s sooooo not cool mom, I’m going to have to unfriend you if you post it or do the same.”

OK then, I’m not posting it to my status but posting it on my blog where thousands of others can see it. Hey, it’s not about him and it’s not on my Facebook. Win-Win!

Invasion of Cats – Sleeping with cats

Can you spot the teen?

Our cats are attracted to our our beds like I am pulled to a newly bought tub of  Ben & Jerry’s (embarrassing). It’s crazy, we usually don’t let the cats sleep with us in our beds, but my son is sick at home and wanted the company, so within the minute of leaving his bedroom door open, this is was the result.

I would like to think that it’s because our cats love us so much, but I’m more inclined to think that it’s because we ‘re a pretty efficient source of heating instead.

After about five minutes later my son yelled from his room : “Mom, can you please get the stupid cats out of here, I can’t sleep.”

Hey, at least they weren’t lying on him, or up on his face like they usually do.

Motivationals for teens

Motivation

“Motivation is the driving force by which humans achieve their goals.” – Wikipedia

And because I want to achieve the goal of a tidy house I try to grab the attention of my teens by trying to be funny. But however funny I tend to find myself, my kids can’t even crack a smile.

I LOVE motivational posters and have used one already to express the fury that I was feeling inside. It helped so I tried to be original and make 3D ones . I was proud of myself for coming up with such a wonderful , witty idea that I started to scour the net, just to make sure that I was the only witty one on the web. But no, I found out I wasn’t the only one with this “brilliant” idea. Some wittier student was before me, using self-made motivational posters to try to get threw to his very very very messy roommate.

Oh well!

I’ll let you know how it worked when I get back home tonight.

The pooped out parents prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray my sanity to keep.
For if some peace I do not find,
I’m pretty sure I’ll lose my mind.

I pray I find a little quiet
Far from the daily family riot
May I lie back — not have to think
about what they’re stuffing down the sink,
or who they’re with, or where they’re at
and what they’re doing to the cat.

I pray for time all to myself
(did something just fall off a shelf?)

To cuddle in my nice, soft bed
(Oh no, another goldfish — dead!)

Some silent moments for goodness sake
(Did I just hear a window break?)

And that I need not cook or clean —
(well heck, I’ve got the right to dream)

Yes now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray my wits about me keep,
But as I look around I know —
I must have lost them long ago!
